How are feeling about the IELTS preparation class so far? We plan to take you through the Writing module first (about 35 hours class time) and then move on to Reading.
Here is my sample answer for the writing task in Wednesday's class. (page 53 in the student book)
The first graph shows population growth for three countries, namely, The U.S., China and India between 1950 and 2030 (projected). The second graph shows urbanization levels for China and India for the same period.
In contrast to China and India, population growth in the U.S. has been slow and steady. Population growth for China and India rises at a similar rate between 1950 and 2000 then China's rate levels off while India's rate continues to rise.
There is a projected point in the future where the two rates are expected to intersect (around 2028). At this point India's population will be be equal to China's and will then surpass it.
In the second chart India's rural population outstrips (is higher than) its urban population beyond 2030, although the two graphs appear to be diverging (getting closer to each other). This is also the case for China but the graph projects an intersection around 2016. This is when China's urban population will exceed its rural population for the first time in history.

Writing again task 2: The chart describes International student enrolments in Australia between 1994 and 2006. The number of International Student Enrolments fluctuated in the first period from 1994 to 2001, and increased steadily in the years later. The number of student Higher Education is the highest of all groups. There is a fluctuation slightly from 1994 to 2001, and increased steadily until 2006. At the first period there is a difference among the three groups ELICOS, Vocational Education and School Education. In 1997 ELICOS go down, whereas the number of students Vocational Education went up at this year. And then, all three groups decrease in 1998. During the two years, 1999 and 2000, ELICOS and Vocational Education increased slowly again. From 2001 all groups steadily increased every year until 2004. The School Education is the least in the chart, the student rose slightly in the first period, after that grew steadily between 2001 and 2006.
Tran, this is much better. You have used a variety of describing words so it is not boring :) Remember I said to use the same tense all the way through. You wrote " In 1997 ELICOS go down" and " And then, all three groups decrease in 1998" - this sentence should not begin with 'And'. Also 'decrease' is not in the past tense. Other than this, excellent work!
The graph shows the amount of international student enrolments with five options, namely, Higher education, Elicos, Vocational education, school education and other in Australia from 1994 to 2006.
The most dramatic changes is evident in Higher education. Between 1994 and 1996, Higher education and Elicos had the same highest amount of student enrolments around 70.000 students, followed by Vocational education with 40.000 students and School education had the lowest quantity with only 10.000 students.
From 1997 to 2001, Higher education was still the leading option, clearly its student amount increased to 100.000 students. Elicos was next with 60.000 students (though its quantity had dropped in 2 years 1998-1999. Vocational education and School education were close behind with a stability was reached at 30.000 students and 10.000 students respectively.
Within 2002 and 2006, there is a projected point in the future that the student enrolments will levell out considerably across the 5 options. Higher education will lead with 170.000 students, followed by Elicos and Vocational education at around 75.000 students. School education and other option will increase double but with a very low quantity at 25.000 students.
The essential trend shows an increase in student enrolments over this thirteen years.
Task 2 : The graph shows the number of iternational student enrolments in Australia from 1994 until 2006.There were two periods (one's from 1994 to 2001,one's from 2002 to 2006).
In general,in the first period (1994-2001),the number of Higher Education student climed slowly and steady which was highest of enrolment of all. While, there were slight fluctuation of other groups as ELICOS,Vocational Education and Scholl Eduacation.
In the second period, the number of Higher Education student suddenlly rose steady until 2006.Beside that,ELICOS and Vocational Education fluctuated arratic at the same time.Next,School Education moderately growth from 2002 to 2003 and remain stable between 2003 to 2004.Afterwards,there was declined gradually from 2004 until 2006.There was one more option in the second pepiod, that was Other which stayed consistent and seem as equally as the number of School Eduacation student.
